A six-member Indian skeet shooting squad will compete in the ISSF World Cup Shotgun season in Lonato.
Skeet shooters to take aim first at the Lonato Shotgun World Cup (NRAI)
A six-member Indian men’s and women’s skeet shooting squad will commence their competition on Sunday, July 6, 2025, as the fourth and final stage of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Shotgun season kicks off at the renowned Trap Concaverde in Lonato, Italy. The skeet squad has arrived well in advance and begun their training, while an additional six members of the Trap team are expected to arrive later in the day.
The qualifying rounds for the men’s and women’s skeet competitions begin on Sunday, featuring the first 50 targets for both events. The athletes will return on Monday for another 50 targets, with the final round of 25 targets scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2025, ahead of both finals.
Indian hopes rest on Olympians Mairaj Ahmad Khan (world rank 105), Anant Jeet Singh Naruka (world rank 23), and Bhavtegh Gill (world rank 43) in men’s skeet. The women’s team also boasts two Olympians, Maheshwari Chauhan (world rank 13) and Raiza Dhillon (world rank 21), alongside the accomplished Ganemat Sekhon (world rank 63).
The men’s skeet field includes a formidable American trio led by legend Vincent Hancock, Italians led by Gabriele Rossetti, Kuwait’s Abdullah Al-Rashidi, Qatar’s Nasser Al-Attiya, Egypt’s Azmy Mehelba, Denmark’s Jesper Hansen, and Chinese Taipei’s Lee Meng-Yuan (Paris bronze medallist). The Indians will face stiff competition to secure a place in the top six.
In women’s skeet, the legendary American shooter Kimberly Rhode will lead another strong American team. Vanesa Hockova (world rank 3) of Slovakia, who finished fourth at the Paris Olympics, will be the highest-ranked athlete in the competition.
