Mahindra Thar RWD To Get New Rival From Force Soon

GaadiWaadi –

In order to challenge the more affordable Thar RWD, Force Motors will be launching a RWD only version of the Gurkha which should be more affordable than the 4WD

Force Motors is currently having a good run in the lifestyle adventure SUV segment as the 3-door Gurkha was a very capable product. Now, with the recent launch of the 2024 version that includes some critical updates alongside the launch of it’s most awaited 5-door version, the Force Gurkha is now spread over multiple price points to lure in more customers.

It is still not enough for Force Motors as the entry level price for the Gurkha is still a little high and in order to address this, they have taken a page out of Mahindra’s book and are planning to launch a RWD version just like the Thar RWD, which is currently the best-selling Thar.

A homologation document has been leaked that shows Force Motors introducing a new base variant under the name “Gurkha 4X2 BS VI FM 2.6 CR 2400 (3+D)”. This will be the most affordable Gurkha and it will go against the likes of Mahindra Thar RWD. There is no change reported in the engine and its configuration and will run on the same 2.6-litre oil burner.

As per the document, we believe that the RWD version is currently being offered only on the 3-door variant while the 5-door variants will continue to run on the 4X4 configuration, and no changes are expected on any of the other models. There is also a possibility that Force may introduce a RWD version of the 5-door variant later, if there is enough demand for the same.

The rest of the variants and configurations of the Force Gurkha will remain the same and no changes are expected including the prices. The features also are expected to remain the same as offered on each variant and this includes the new RWD version too, which means it will be feature-loaded and the only thing it will be missing is the 4X4 transfer case.

It all comes down to the pricing and when Mahindra launched the Thar RWD it was launched at an introductory price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) which is a banger of a price considering the potential of the Thar even in its RWD version and it also got a different engine that was sourced from the XUV300 which produced less power compared to the 4X4 version.

Times have changed and the base variant of the Thar RWD now costs Rs 11.35 lakh (ex-showroom) and the fully loaded variant costs Rs 12.85 lakh (ex-showroom). Considering the 3-door 4X4 version of the Gurkha costs Rs 16.75 lakh (ex-showroom), the RWD version should slide in somewhere between Rs 12.99 – 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom) to prove itself worthy for the buyers.
