Palmer opened the scoring midway through the first half before doubling Chelsea’s lead on the half-hour mark. Just before halftime, he capitalized on PSG’s static defending to assist João Pedro, who made it 3–0 in the 43rd minute.

PSG’s evening went from bad to worse in the 86th minute when João Neves was shown a red card after a VAR review, having pulled Marc Cucurella by the hair off the ball—a moment that perfectly encapsulated the frustration boiling over within Luis Enrique’s side.

The victory capped a remarkable season for Chelsea, who became the first champions of the new-format Club World Cup. The win adds to their UEFA Conference League title and a fourth-place Premier League finish, marking a significant turnaround under new management.

The club will also bank an estimated $125 million in prize money, softening the blow of a shortened summer break as they prepare for the 2025–26 campaign.
